To practice within the domain of ecotourism both as a traveller and a travel supplier, is not a difficult task. In earlier days, one called a travel agency and asked them to arrange a trip for them to some destination (some still doing it :). This way every thing was arranged for them on a plate. So they took their trip, enjoyed themselves and returned home. Well there is nothing wrong with that but you should imagine that there was no control on where your money was actually spent? did 70% of the money stayed in the travel agencies pocket? did the rest of the money go to hotels owned by western chains? in short one could not have an idea about how we influenced the places and the people we visited. Ecotourism, responsible travel, sustainable tourism is about changing this.

 

Times are changing and it is for some time now that new trends have emerged in the ways we travel. Modern travellers of today find searching for their next adventure, as exciting as the adventure itself. Modern travellers do not rely on travel agencies alone. They investigate, communicate and use the world of the web actively in order to find their next thrill. Adding responsibility and expecting sustainability to search criterias makes it also possible for the modern travellers to not only experience the same thrill (if not better) but also make a difference. And you can rest assure that the trend is growing.

 

The suppliers of different products around the world have also realized this trend and many of them understand that making a difference in fact improves the growth and the quality of their business in many different ways. That is why the number of tour operators and accommodation providers who truly work in this domain, is increasing.
